London (KurdishMedia.com) 13 June, 2003: There are a large variety of Kurdish websites, each of which help Kurds, whether oppressed in their homeland or exiled abroad, to get in touch with their culture and celebrate their heritage. Thanks to the Internet, any Kurd can read news in Kurdish by Kurdish reporters, listen to Kurdish music, and have political debates with other Kurds.

Kurdistanshop.com, recently founded by Kurds in the Netherlands, is one of the newer additions to the Kurdish section of the Internet and is the first Kurdish store online. It offers a variety of Kurdish-themed products and ships them to customers worldwide. Most importantly, this website sells the most indispensable symbol of Kurdish nationalism and identity, the flag of Kurdistan, in various sizes at a reasonable price.

Indeed, it can be difficult and dangerous to bring Kurdish products from Kurdistan. At the same time, it is almost impossible to purchase a Kurdish flag in most countries, partially due to general apathy toward the plight of the Kurds.

Company President Nawzad Sulaiman explains that his business represents “a Kurdistan without borders”, making Kurdish products available to people all over the world. The Company’s workers in the Netherlands are all Kurds from southern (Iraqi) Kurdistan. In the near future, Kurdistanshop.com plans to expand its product lines and, according to Mr. Sulaiman, they plan to open a Kurdistanshop branch in liberated Iraqi Kurdistan, which will make shipping Kurdish products abroad more convenient.
